Driver's Education

LUHS has two part-time driver education instructors.  Classes are extremely limited and the waiting list is extensive.  Please be patient.

Driver's Education Sign Up Procedures

Driver Education is a unique class because students MUST possess a driver’s permit in order to participate.

There are three sign ups per year: the weeks of September 15, February 15 and May 15.  Students who do sign up are

prioritized as follows:  seniors first, then by the validation date on their permit.  Under no circumstances will

students be allowed to enter driver's education unless they have met the requirements and specific deadlines for

registration. Students must be at least in their second year of high school before they can be enrolled in this

class.

Driver's Education and Drug/Alcohol Violations

Students who are enrolled in driver education who violate the school’s drug/alcohol policy will be immediately

removed from the program.  Students who have not yet taken driver education will be issued a six-month

penalty beyond other students for any drug/alcohol policy violation occurring during grades 7-12. Offending

students are treated as though they earned their permit 6 months later than actually earned when sorting the

wait list for driver education.

Students currently enrolled in grades 10-12 with a valid Vermont Learner's Permit residing in the Lamoille North Supervisory Union District towns of Belvidere, Cambridge, Eden, Hyde Park, Johnson and  Waterville.

For the 2024-2025 school year, there is one class offered for semester one, during fourth block on a gold day.  For semester two, only one class will be available, also during fourth block on a gold day.  If a summer class is available, it will be posted here later in the school year.

There are three sign ups for Driver's Education every school year: the weeks of September 15, February 15 and May 15.  Only students with a valid Vermont learner's permit currently enrolled in LUHS and in grades 10-12 can sign up.  Reminders will be given on the school's morning announcements that eligible students can sign up with Mrs. Cooney in the guidance office.   Students signing up are put on a waiting list, and priority is given to seniors and to students who have had their permit the longest. Students not immediately placed in a class will remain on the waiting list until a spot becomes available.

Students will be driving during the day when they have a study hall, after school or sometimes on the weekends.  Driving schedules are posted in the front lobby where your student can relay the information home.
